Simply Ghost Nights were thrilled to be approached by one of Bradford`s magnificent buildings due to the sheer amount of activity being reported on a regular scale. The building also houses the working police station of today as well as the old police station, cells and courthouse which is where the activity is reported.
Most of the sightings were being experienced by the staff who are all ex police officers, many who never did speak of what had happened in fear of being disbelieved.
Built is 1873 it was originally designed to provide facilities for the Bradford Police and Law Courts. It was designed in such a way that prisoners could be processed from the reception directly to the cells and then to the courthouse without leaving the building. Prisoners consisted of men, women and children, most of which went on to sentencing and never leaving the building. In total eleven prisoners were sent to be executed from this prison dating from 1873 - 1954.
Over the years reports of ghostly apparitions and paranormal activity have been reported in various areas including the courthouse itself, the toilets, cells and even the former police resting areas.
One of the most famous spirits believed to roam the building is that of "Chains Charlie", who was a former prisoner who had been tortured before being executed for murder?
One Ex Police Officer who worked there most of his career told us he has carried out many investigations himself after witnessing so much and was shocked to actually capture a pair of legs which were completely opaque on the photo in the court house and he said there was no one in there at the time.
There are five recorded suicides from the cells which are all explained in great detail as well as all the activity being reported throughout the years in a book written by Les and can be purchased by the museum for a small cost.
The Book is called Chains Charlie The Ghost Of City Hall (Well worth reading before investigating)
Activity at the hall includes
